What's On   Curators' Choice   Times
Victoriana Image

Although we might be Scotland’s oldest independent museum, that doesn’t stop us from trying to come up with new and exciting ideas. From Art Exhibitions, lectures to changing displays, we always try to come up with something fresh.

We continue to update our archaeological collection with the latest finds from around Moray, and continue to host talented local artists’ exhibitions in the Mezzanine Gallery.

Currently we are looking at the possibilities of improving and extending our facilities. This includes applying for funding for an initial feasibility study to extend and redevelop our Museum Hall, making it more attractive to local community groups and schools. We are also considering other improvements. Watch this space...

Curators Choice Image

With over 36000 items to choose from in the collection it is a bit of a challenge to pick out just a few examples.

However, here goes. I have chosen an object that’s new to collection. It’s a medieval sword buckle, which features a knight or King seated with two knights or similar holding a crown over his head. It was found, with many other things, at Clarkly Hill, near Burghead. This site will feature a lot in future Curator’s Choices.
