This talk gives a quick overview of how the Treasu re Trove system works\, what the Treasure Trove Unit does\, who they are\, and some of the big changes to the unit over the last year\, before showi ng and talking through particularly interesting cases of objects which hav e come through the process from Moray in the last few years.
\nDr George Prew is a Treasure Trove Officer focusin g on Moray\, Orkney\, Shetland\, and The Lothians. His research interests centre on dress and death\, as brought out in his recently-concluded PhD t hesis which analyses communities in Iron Age Italy through how they dresse d their corpses. Within the Treasure Trove Unit\, he has a particular inte rest in Late Medieval enamelled objects\, heraldry\, small lead finds\, an d shot.

\nBruce Keith with regale us with highlights from his latest book\, “Scotland beneath the surface”. It’s a subterranean odyssey exploring the natural and man-made heritage under ou r feet\, from natural caves to hollow mountains for hydro power generation \, from railway tunnels to underground tanks and bunkers and from fossils to the mining of fossil fuels.
\nBruce Keith is a retired chartered surveyor and chartered environmentalist. He started his career on several Aberdeenshire estates before joining the Department of Agriculture in Edin burgh. In 1996 he migrated south of the border as Chief Surveyor with Engl ish Nature. Bruce retired ten years ago as Head of Property at SSE (Scotti sh and Southern Energy plc – the Hydro Board) – the largest renewable ener gy company in the UK and Ireland.
