Having been closed to visitors since October 2019, Elgin Museum is now open to visitors once more as of 7th August 2021.

The Museum will be open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am – 3pm (last entry at 2.30pm), with entry through booked timeslots – entry is still FREE!

Visit our ticketing site to book your ticket now – visitor numbers are limited (the result of our over-170 year old building!) and please note that booking currently closes at midnight the day before.

Please also check our social media channels for details of drop-in availability and closures.

If you have visited us before, you will notice some changes to the visitor experience. These measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of visitors and our Volunteer workforce in response to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Full details can be found on our ticketing site, but new measures include: the wearing of face coverings in the Museum (unless exempt), 2m social distancing, a one-way system through the building, and the relocation of our shop and exit to our Side Hall. We would also encourage you to view and read our risk assessment prior to booking – this can be found on our Policies page or you can download here (pdf 843KB).

Please also note there are no on-site children’s activities, trails, puzzles, dress-up etc (but you will be able to pick up a free activity pack as you exit the museum – and we still have lots of activities on our website and YouTube Channel for you to try at home – see below)

Without these changes to the visitor experience, we would not be able to open to visitors, so we hope you will be understanding of the ‘new’ Elgin Museum!

If you are visiting by car, please be advised that there is a charge for parking in nearby carparks on Saturdays. The Moray Council HQ Annexe carpark (opposite the Museum, accessed from Greyfriar’s Street) is £1.00 for all day parking; North College Street (adjacent to the Museum) ranges in price from £0.50 for 30 minutes to £5.00 for 10 hours.

Parking is free on Sundays.

For more information, visit the Moray Council’s car parking charges webpage.

You can now also support Elgin Museum by choosing “The Moray Society” as your chosen charity on AmazonSmile. Every time you shop on smile.amazon.co.uk, Amazon donates 0.5% of the net purchase price (excluding VAT, returns and shipping fees) of eligible purchases to the charitable organisation of your choice. AmazonSmile is the same Amazon, but is accessed via a different website – same products, same prices, same service, but you get to help Elgin Museum every time you buy! So why not help us out while you shop – it’s as simple as selecting The Moray Society as your chosen charity.
