Elgin Walk & Sketch
Sunday 13th September 2026, 10.00am – 1.00pm
A creative walk around Elgin’s historic town centre, explore the buildings and streetscape around us. Inspired by the work of Sir George Reid RSA in our collection, we’ll create observational sketches, in monochrome, using a variety of materials to capture a unique record of our journey.
Known mainly for being a portrait painter, George Reid was also noted for his black and white (monochrome) works, using pen & ink and watercolours sketches.
This event is being run as part of the RSA200: Celebrating Together, a year of events celebrating the 200th anniversary of the founding of the Royal Scottish Academy.
Suitable for ages 18+
No previous drawing experience required
All materials will be provided
Please dress appropriately for the weather conditions on the day (layers, hat / sunglasses, sunscreen) and wear comfortable shoes for walking. If you have a small folding or portable stool, feel free to bring this with you. Please bring any water / snacks you may require.

Family Fun: Create your own Sea Creature
Coastal Crafts at Elgin Museum!
Join us at this family friendly event (ages 5-8) to create your own mythical sea creature! You’ll create your own creature from our special seaside supplies, name it (using our handy naming guide), and decide what it eats and where it lives!
Suitable for ages 5-8
All under-18s must be accompanied by an adult (each children’s ticket includes one adult).
Things might get messy, so please dress appropriately!

Family Fun: Create your own Miniature Shell Collection
Coastal Crafts at Elgin Museum!
Join us at this family friendly event (ages 9-13) to create your own boxed miniature shell collection.
Inspired by the mini boxed shell collection once own by local historian Rev George Gordon, and in honour of our Museum in Miniature, you’ll create a small decorative box to hold miniature sea shells – including a special name label, just like George Gordon’s.
You can choose from our collection, or bring your own (shells must be smaller than 3cm), and you’ll create a small fold out guide to your collection.
Suitable for ages 9-13
All under-18s must be accompanied by an adult (each children’s ticket includes one adult).
