a talk by Alan Thompson
Alan Thompson is an enthusiastic amateur archaeologist based in Inverness, a member of the North of Scotland Archaeological Society (NOSAS) and a contributor to Scotland’s Rock Art Project (ScRAP). While examples of “cup and ring” markings in Moray such as the Camus Stone and Easter Backlands have been known for many years, this project is on the hunt for new examples of rock art. The team is experimenting with the use of modern but relatively simple photographic methods of recording both newly found and long known stones. Alan will talk about the results from around the Moray Firth, and even try and reach some conclusions about the mindset in prehistory of the rock carvers.
